Burning Bridge project is bringing the work of Turku writers to the world
Turku is the European Capital of Culture in 2011. The city’s literary life is ablaze with energy, firing the imagination with anarchic fun and warming readers with its glow. The Burning Bridge Literary Agency project promotes the translation and publication of new writing from the Turku area and functions as an authors’ and publishers’ foreign rights centre.
Turku has long been a centre of underground writing and street poetry. But there’s a lot more to it than that: Burning Bridge is the first literary agency to cover this field and coordinate and promote it. Established in 2009, it shares the freshness of its books and writers. Three of the city’s main publishing houses are active in the new agency, as well as the local authors’ association.
Once upon a time, Finnish culture began in Turku. Now it’s coming from there again, and travelling further this time. Join the book parade!
The Burning Bridge Literary Agency project is part of the City of Turku’s European Capital of Culture 2011 program and it is run by Turku Burning Bridge ry association. It is based in Kirjan talo (The Book House), which is a centre for Turku areas’ literary organizations.
Burning Bridge Literary Agency presents for example the authors Riku Korhonen (Hyvästi tytöt, Lääkäriromaani, Sammakko), Milla Paloniemi (Kiroileva siili, Sammakko), underground-poet Markku Into, Kreetta Onkeli (Kotirouva, Ilonen talo), Antti Nylén (Vihan ja katkeruuden esseet, Savukeidas), Timo Hännikäinen (Ilman, Savukeidas), Hannu Hirvonen, Boris Hurtta, Harri Kumpulainen and the poets Ville Hytönen, Henry Lehtonen and Juha Kulmala.
The Burning Bridge Literary Agency welcomes inquiries concerning translation and other rights connected with these books and authors, as well as others coming from the Turku area.
